It won’t come as a surprise to most people that Research in Motion (RIM) had a disappointing Q3. Although sales didn’t plummet to the depths most analysts predicted, the company still reported a GAAP loss of $114 million. The upcoming release of the BlackBerry 10 platform meant that only 6.9 BlackBerry smartphones were shipped last quarter.
However, there might still be hope for the floundering company. Early leaks of the BlackBerry 10 devices are coming fast and furious, and the company plans to release the first round of handsets on January 30, 2013. Will it be too late, though? Millions of people have abandoned their BlackBerry devices in favor of Android and iPhones. Will the new BlackBerry 10 platform be enough to lure them back?
