Wordpress.com is easily the best free content management system (CMS) available today. It’s not just a blogging platform—it’s the back-end system of some of the world’s biggest content-driven websites, including The New York Times. However, the backup functionality on Wordpress is not ideal. Currently, it does not feature a built-in application to back up databases, files and directories.
Luckily, there are plenty of plug-ins out there that will save your site should an unfortunate event occur:
- Backup Scheduler is an easy-to-use tool that will back up the entirety of your WordPress site when, what and where you want. $75 for two licenses.
- BlogVault is a totally automated backup system that features an excellent restore feature. $9/month for one site.
- Complete Central Backup is very straightforward and doesn’t have a lot of features, but it’s free, so what more could you ask from a weekly backup service?
