Avoid These Horrible Passwords to Improve Your Password Security

Passwords. You might hate that you have to remember them, but they are still an important part of your security infrastructure. Today, we want to highlight some of the common passwords people use, why using them is a bad idea, and what you can do to nip this problem in the bud.

Weak Passwords to Be Mindful Of

If you’re using weak or common passwords, your accounts will be much more vulnerable compared to if you’re using more complex ones. Here are some of the worst out there that you should never use:

  • 123456
  • password
  • 123456789
  • 12345678
  • 12345
  • 1234567
  • qwerty
  • 111111
  • abc123
  • password1

There are also some simple variations and predictable words that you should steer clear from, like these:

  • letmein
  • iloveyou
  • admin
  • welcome
  • monkey
  • dragon
  • football
  • !@#$%^&*
  • 123123
  • sunshine

It’s pretty easy for a hacker to guess any of the above, so avoid them whenever you can. You should instead choose a strong password that uses a combination of upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters–perhaps even transformed into a multi-word passphrase. You can use a password manager to make your passwords easier to remember while keeping them secure with powerful encryption.

BNMC can help you implement the best password policies, practices, and solutions out there. Give us a call at (978) 482-2020 to learn more.
